Pale Blue and White Bedrooms

Pale blue and white are extremely popular color combinations for bedrooms. This color pairing reflects the white clouds and blue skies of the great outdoors, the tranquility of nature is harnessed to create a soothing, relaxing and serene environment that is perfect in any home but especially for those that dwell in the city.

This color scheme works well in many different styles and situations, the charm of blue and white always appeals!

A small and dark space will respond well to the freshness and airiness that soft and pale shades of blue bring. Painting a room in white or a very pale shade of blue will instantly open up a room and expand the space.

To add a beachy-vibe to her crisp, white bedroom, designer Carolyn Espley-Miller hung an old sea-foam barn door above her bed. This room has a lovely airy and beachy feel to it with the pale blue divider behind the bed and the crisp white linen.

Traditional Color Combinations

Never underestimate the use of color in a room, color can create such an impact and can completely change the feel of a certain space.

Following are some general color tips on the use of traditional color in a room.

Blues are receding and cool. They can be used in a variety of hues and tones without overtaking a room. Greens and soft yellows make perfect color accents to blue.

Reds are powerful and when working with reds less is probably best. Reds work best when combined with neutrals such as “ecru” or when combined with creams, beige or white.

Yellows are very sunny and cheerful, however this is not really a color for everyone’s tastes. Yellow is best when worked in as an accent to almost all other primary color, but you probably will not use it on doors or trim. Soft yellow walls can look stunning as long as they are offset with fabrics and accessories in other good companion colors.

The following traditional color pairings create rooms that will feel welcoming and comforting:

  • Black and white
  • Black and red
  • Red and white
  • Yellow and red
  • Black, white and blue
  • Blue and white
  • blue and yellow
  • Mauve and sage
  • Brown and beige
  • Blue and green

Purple and Green Inspiration

My inspiration for today comes from this beautiful piece of fabric in a bluish lavender color and muted pastel greens and neutrals. It has an exquisite floral pattern that combines colors to create a gorgeous palette. The overall effect is one of serenity and tranquility, these colors create a peaceful and safe haven.

Let’s take a look at some rooms that incorporate this basic color theme so you can see how this color palette can take shape within your own home.

This first room is a perfect example of the color scheme of the fabric above at work. The color is put together beautifully with an arrangement of antique furniture. You can see how well different tones of purple and green work together to create a harmonious environment.

Next we have the same color scheme at work in a contemporary environment.  The main colors of pastel purple, pastel green and whites working together to create harmony and take the edge of rigid hard straight lines, lending some softness to a modern look.

This color scheme is put to work in an outdoor environment with the veranda painted in lavender blue and white blending in perfectly with the natural greens of the plants and grass.
